Swim makes it a point to not overwhelm our members with requests for donations. The only time we do this is during matching funds campaigns. The current one will last until the end of June. This makes this the best time to make a donation as all donations up to $500 are matched by National. If you were planning to donate now is the time! You can donate here.

JUNE IS GUN VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

Gun violence changed my family's life forever.  Many of you may not know, my son Andrew is a survivor of the Oxford High School shooting.  That tragedy pushed me off the sidelines. I've been advocating, running for office and organizing ever since.  And I'm not done.

To those who've lost someone and to those who fight for the living, join us this month for the statewide campaign.

RSVP for one of the many GVP events across Michigan by clicking here.

The stakes couldn't be higher. Bad actors in Washington are pushing dangerous bills like the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (S.65) and we cannot afford to be silent.

Not now.

Stand up.

Speak out.

We need you.

URGENT: MAGA Budget Bill Threatens Massive Wealth Transfer

The Republican budget reconciliation bill—potentially the largest wealth transfer from poor to rich n U.S. history—passed the House 215-214 and now heads to the Senate.

What's at stake:

  • Expanded tax cuts for high earners

  • Eliminated clean energy credits (higher energy costs)

  • Accelerated Medicaid cuts leaving 7.6 million uninsured

  • Bans on Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care

  • Restrictions on transition coverage through ACA exchange

The bill barely passed with all Democrats and two Republicans opposing. Senate lawmakers are calling for major changes—this is our moment to mobilize and stop this legislation beforebecomes law.Invite friends and neighbors to call our legislators and hold them accountable for the Republicans "Murder Bill"Rogan's List has published an informative Action Toolkit you can access here.

GENIUS Act Update: Senator Slotkin votes in favor of the Genius Act

Senator Slotkin voted YES on the GENIUS Act.

What does it mean? How it affects us and what to do next:

The Senate passed the GENIUS Act stablecoin bill 68-30 this week, moving it to the House where timing remains uncertain. The House may take up the Senate version, revert to their STABLE Act with modifications, or combine it with the CLARITY crypto bill for a package deal. Expect action after the July recess at earliest.

If you disagree with with Senator Slotkin, let her know by calling her office at 202-224-4822

Sample Script: "I'm [name], a constituent from [location]. I'm disappointed you voted for the GENIUS Act - it lacks meaningful consumer protections and could personally enrich Trump's crypto ventures. You chose crypto donors over constituents.

Iran War Powers Action You can also call her about Iran: "I'm concerned Trump is acting like he can declare war alone. Congress has war powers under the Constitution. Please sign onto War Powers resolutions requiring congressional approval before any Iran conflict."

NEWS FROM NATIONAL

Request from National

Sen. KaineRep. Khanna, and Rep. Massie have introduced War Powers Resolutions in the US

Senate and the US House, respectively. This means they can fast-track an up or down vote on preventing US military involvement in war with Iran. A successful vote could end up limiting involvement, and even a strong showing sends a clear pro-peace message.  You can read more about this and how you can support this initiative here.

From our fearless Indivisible Regional Organizer, Scott Ickes:

What's the Plan calls with Ezra and Leah - it's important to keep aligned with Indivisible's thinking on Theory of Change, and for building local groups, and it also helps everyone to remember that there is a pro-democracy plan! Register for these clarifying Q&A sessions here, Thursdays, 3ET.
